Biography[]

Jimmy is the son of Shaunda and an unnamed man.

When he was three years old, his mother married firefighter Wallace Boden and he became the stepson of the latter. They were very close, as Boden never addressed him as his stepson and loved the young boy as if he was his own, in return Jimmy loved and saw Boden as his father-figure. Apparently, Boden took Jimmy to Firehouse 51 several times, due to the fact Herrmann and Mouch were familiar with him and recalled him when he was a kid.

At some point, Boden and Shonda divorced, but Boden still reached out to Jimmy as a way to continue their bond.

Season 1[]

In the wake of a young boy's death, Boden decides to visit Shonda and Jimmy. Once there, he asked to see his stepson, but she refuses because Jimmy is not his real son. Despite her refusal, he insists that he is his true father; he raised the boy since he was three and never called him stepson. Jimmy came down stairs while chasing the dog, before he sees Boden, calling him "Dad". The pair shared an emotional reunion. (Warm and Dead)

Season 2[]

Boden mentions Jimmy to his girlfriend Donna Robbins and her friends. He later mentioned to his colleagues how Jimmy may not want anything to do with him now. This appeared to be the case after a sad telephone call with him. (Keep Your Mouth Shut)

Season 5[]

Boden makes an attempt to reach out by calling Jimmy but is ignored. Boden tells Herrmann that Jimmy now prefers to be called James now that he's older, as Herrmann comments time goes on. Very soon, Boden decides to text him and wanted a call. Surprised by this, Jimmy decided to surprise him back and went to his house and waited for Boden to come home. Because of this, he unintentionally scared Donna and Boden's son Terrance Boden. When Boden came home, Donna tells him of the car sitting outside their house for hours. Once Boden angrily marches towards the car asking the driver what he wants, James emerges and states he didn't mean to scare the family but thought it weird to go inside. When Boden sees its him, James reveals his intention and hugs his father who introduces James to his wife. This left Donna surprised to finally meet him. (I Held Her Hand)

James later tells Boden that his mother's boyfriend, Todd, is the one who attacked him and has been doing so regularly. This news causes Boden to bear the latter at his work place. It also results in him being suspended for a shift. At the end, James' mother comes over and reveals she did not know while apologizing to James and Boden for letting the abuse go on. James decides to leave but respects his decision to look out for his mother. James thanks his stepfather for what he has done for him and he and his mother go to live with his grandmother for the time being. (Lift Each Other)
