Jason Pelham is a firefighter and the company officer for Truck 72 at Firehouse 25.
When he joins Firehouse 51 after Casey’s departure, he gets along with some of the firefighters but clashes regularly with Gallo. After calling Gallo out on a rescue, Pelham tries to reconcile by buying Gallo a beer. Gallo pretends he has plans and leaves and the tension between the two continues. Pelham admires Gallo’s respect for Casey and honoring his methods, but insist Gallo follows commands.
Hermann and Pelham get along during his time at Firehouse 51. Hermann even says Pelham is going places. Until he realizes Pelham has been floating from house to house for years then him and Mouch begin questioning why Pelham can’t find a permanent home. After they investigate him more, they discover he has been at six houses over two years. Boden requests his personnel file to get a better read on why Pelham is struggling to find a permanent placement.
Boden discovers that Pelham was suspended. His suspension remains the longest in CFD history. When Boden presses him for his side of the story, but Pelham says he can’t say anything further on the subject. Boden says that he can’t bring him on permanently without an explanation. Instead of giving him more information, Pelham says he will fight to stay at Firehouse 51.
Mouch finds out through the grapevines that Pelham punches his officer in the face. No one knows why. A few weeks after the incident, the officer retired. Mouch says “Pelham punched him right out of the CFD” to Boden.
Meanwhile, Pelham and Gallo clash on another call. Gallo disregards Pelham’s orders and when they return to quarters Pelham implies he’s going to see Boden to report Gallo. Gallo calls him out for this and says he’s not a candidate and shouldn’t be treated like a kid. Pelham decides to stop the argument and leave.
Boden discovers that the Captain Pelham punched in the face stole antiques during a call and that was why they fought. The Captain gave Pelham a glowing review. He explains that Pelham gave him an out after he stole the antiques. Pelham promised he’d never tell if the Captain retired and returned the stolen goods.
Eventually, Boden offers Pelham a permanent spot in the firehouse. After a call where Gallo saves a little girl, Pelham and him patch up their difference.
Chief Killbourne was the one who suspended Pelham. He approaches Boden to warn him he will regret hiring Pelham. On a call with Engine 37, a firefighter named McBride tried to secure a downed power line on her own and is injured. She claims Pelham gave her the order to secure the line without proper equipment. Firehouse 51 rallies around Pelham to prove he did not give her that order. Boden discovers that Chief Killbourne approached McBride about making the false claim.
Pelham settles in at Firehouse 51 and gets along well with everyone. When he hears Kidd might leave for the lieutenant position at Truck 72, he decides to take the post himself. He felt he owed Kidd for saving his job and wanted her to be able to stay at Firehouse 51.
