Pouch was the dog of Firehouse 51. She is adopted by the firehouse when a child drops her off, stating his dad will drown her if he doesn’t find a home for her. Peter Mills volunteers to find her a home, but fails.

Chief Boden, Herrmann and Mouch are eventually persuaded to keep the dog, and she is named "Pouch" because she is "half pooch, half couch". (Warm and Dead)

When Detective Bianca Holloway is testifying in a trial, she leaves her son, J.J., at the firehouse and he bonds with Pouch. When she's shot and killed, it leaves J.J. as an orphan in the care of his Aunt Mary. Pouch pines for J.J. and so Severide takes Pouch over to his car and says that he can look after Pouch for a while because he's part of the family, too, and is welcome to come and visit any time.
