The Chicago Fire Department (or CFD) provides fire suppression and emergency medical services to the city of Chicago, Illinois under the Mayor of Chicago's jurisdiction.
There are four bureau's in the Chicago Fire Department. Each bureau is commanded by a Deputy Fire Commissioner. Within each bureau, there are divisions. Each division is commanded by a Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner. Each of the 4 Bureau's Deputy Fire Commissioners report to the 1st Deputy Fire Commissioner, who in turn reports to the Fire Commissioner.
Firefighter Award of Valor - Fire suppression members for their act of outstanding bravery or heroism, while demonstrating personal courage, above and beyond the call of duty.
City of Chicago Special Honorable Mention - Act of heroism, clearly demonstrating courage and dedication in the face of danger while in the performance of their duties.
City of Chicago Honorable Mention - The City of Chicago Honorable Mention is an award presented to a sworn Department member for an outstanding act of bravery or heroism by which the member has demonstrated selflessness, courage and dedication in the face of danger.
Richard G. Albrecht Award of Merit - Members who have caused a substantial savings in manpower or operational costs and has gone beyond the requirements of their normal assignment to contribute to a more effective and efficient fire departme
Clinical Resuscitation Award - Members involved in the successful resuscitation efforts of a pulseless patient.
Past Award - Recognized for courage and dedication in the face of danger. (this award is no longer issued by the CFD as it was discontinued in the 1980s but its still recognised)
Unit Performance Award - Exhibited professional skill and conduct during a coordinated fireground or administrative function.
Military Deployment Award - Members who are activated/called to service in the United States Armed Services during their career with the CFD.
Public Service Award - Contributed through public service to the community and created a favorable impression on the department
Instructor Service Award - Members who train candidates.
NATO Campaign Award - Members who voluntarily participated in the planning and response during the Chicago NATO Summit.
Lambert Tree/Carter Harrison Award - The Lambert Tree/Carter Harrison Award are awarded to Department members for acts of outstanding bravery or heroism which clearly demonstrate, in great degree, selflessness and courage by going above and beyond the call of duty, under adverse conditions with the possibility of extreme personal risk.
Joint Operations Award - The Joint Operations Award is an award presented to each Department member who functions in joint operations with other public safety agencies/entities for a period of one (1) year or more.
Instructor Service Award - An Instructor Service Award is presented to Department members who were chosen to train Candidate Firefighters or Candidate Paramedics
Chicago NATO Summit Campaign Ribbon - The Chicago NATO Summit Campaign Ribbon was established to recognize individuals who contributed to the development, support, and operations of the CFD during the Chicago NATO Summit which occurred in Chicago on May 18 - 21, 2012.
Firehouse Magazine Heroism Award - The Firehouse Magazine Heroism Award is awarded to a Department member who has shown outstanding bravery in the execution of their duties as a member of the CFD.
