In A Real Shot in the Arm, Captain Matt Casey took interest in Blake Gallo to replace Otis after witnessing him climb five floors to save a man. However, Chief Boden turned him down due to his impulsiveness. After Severide reminded Boden of his own stunt as a rookie, Boden approved the transfer.

Boden continued to be sceptical of Gallo, especially after hearing his story about being rescued as a kid. However, Chief Burkett told Boden that he was the firefighter who saved Gallo, and his family didn't make it out. He hung out in the firehouse all the time and subsequently became firefighter (Badlands).

In What Went Wrong, Gallo was noticeably disturbed when a young kid wanted to enter his burning house to save his family. He went inside against Casey's order and got reported, thus making Boden revealed the story to Casey. On Ritter's encouragement, he finally told Casey about the fire he was in and wondered if he would be able to save his family.

He is reunited with Violet in Hold Our Ground, where she berated Blake for not following proper protocol in a car crash. His request shocks her, but she calmly complies and asks what he wants, as he states he was wrong and wants to be with her. Blake leaves after blaming Cruz for this idea.

Soon they are able to get free before Casey and the rest of the team show up. They also find out the gunman is still trapped in his car, where he is begging for help while despite his actions Sylvie frees him and gets him the medical attention he deserves. Gallo also bandages her up and the two go back to the house, rather than going to Chicago Med. At Molly's, Gallo is drinking with Casey, Capp, and Tony before they invite Brett over.
