Badlands is the third episode of the eighth season and the 162nd overall episode of Chicago Fire.
Summary[]
Brett and Foster question the suspicious circumstances surrounding a brutal attack at a juvenile detention center, which leaves them searching for the truth. A convoluted new technology installed inside Firehouse 51 tests everybody's patience. Kidd gets chosen to represent the district at a leadership conference.
Plot[]
As Issac is forcibly grabbed, he starts to panic while being dragged away by other guards, despite protests from Brett and Foster that it is hurting him. As he is taken away, Issac pleads with the other inmates to stand up and reveal what Houghton does to them. Seeing this display and Houghton coming out, several reveal how he tortures them, steals money from them and orchestrates their abuse in the Badlands while condemning him. Having enough evidence, Brett tells the now stunned superintendent that she and Foster will gladly testify to any Alderman on exposing this cruel treatment. Foster threatens the surprised Houghton that should something happen to Issac, she and Brett will ensure he is sent to prison for the rest of his life. After they leave, the superintendent glares angrily at the speechless Houghton.
After having a grueling time with the system, Boden snaps and throws it out the window, much to the house's satisfaction. At that moment, Jessa comes up and sees her system destroyed before glancing at Casey who tries to explain. However, Jessa picks up her equipment and leaves while telling him to lose her number, as Severide tells Casey it all worked out in the end.
Kim Burgess walks up to and has Boden, Brett, and Foster talk in Boden's office. She congratulations them on their victory and remarks they had the guts to take on the Juvie center, before revealing that Issac was successfully transferred to a new center with a better chance at getting his act together. She also reveals that Houghton was placed on administrative leave while an investigation was launched into the accusations.
