Andrew Lewellen was a victim in a fire where he was badly burnt. He returned to his house in order to retrieve a box from the basement, but the box was dropped and the photos it contained spilled everywhere which led to police discovering a major child trafficking, child pornography and pedophilia ring called the Chess and Checkers Club.
Biography[]
Andrew Lewellen had been involved in the Chess and Checkers Club for nearly 10 years, helping with the financing for the entire operation. He sent $5K a month to a retirement home on behalf of Matilda Huges who worked for the Department of Children and Family Services in Chicago, helping to place children into foster care homes where they could then be trafficked to New York.
For at least the past five years, he was also paying for multiple houses where the children were kept before being transferred to New York but did so once a year and in cash. (They'll Have To Go Through Me, Chicago P.D. episode)
Lewellen's house caught fire and so he helped his dog escape from the fire and then ran back into the basement. He was trying to salvage and protect pornographic photos of children which were screenshots of videos which the Chess and Checkers Club live-streamed throughout the world. However, he dropped the box and all of the contents from it spilled. Kelly Severide called for the room to be sealed off, nothing else to be touched, and for the police to be contacted. This started the police investigation into the Chess and Checkers club. (Nobody Touches Anything) (Chicago Crossover, Law and Order SVU episode)
The Chess and Checkers club had him, as well as other members of the club who were exposed, killed in order to prevent their secrets and other members from being revealed, but they still managed to discover the head of all of the operations. He was awake, responsive, and recovering from the injuries he sustained prior to being killed. The officer who was assigned to protect and hold Lewellen was also killed. (They'll Have To Go Through Me)
